Parade attendees must register for all Driving Tours during Phase II Event Registration. Attendees will not be able to register for tours at Parade check-in.
Driving Tours are “managed” drives designed for everyone to travel as a group. Plans for Driving Tours at this year's Parade include routes that follow scenic, historic, and fun-to-drive roads heading out to great destinations, including Cheaha State Park (featuring Alabama's highest point), scenic Lake Martin, Pursell Farms (where Southern Hospitality and activities abound), and Barber Motorsports Park, "The Augusta National of Motorsports."
Parade also offers “Destination Drives,” where you can follow suggested routes to interesting destinations on your own. Information will be provided on the Parade website and at the Info Desk at Parade. A few preliminary ideas for Destination Drives are the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL, and Trissl Sports Cars in Florence, AL. Destination Drives do not require registration.
For Driving Tours, each participant is expected to do their part to keep the tour group together. Parade Tours follow the PCA Minimum Standards for Driving Tours. For safety, we recommend all tour participants have a working cell phone. An on-board or external GPS device/navigation app can also be useful. Two-way radios (walkie-talkies) are permitted if they can be tuned to both a radio channel and a security sub-channel. The passenger/navigator should be the operator of any such radios, so that the driver stays focused on the road. Safety is the primary consideration on driving tours, along with an emphasis on courtesy to others on the road.
All Driving Tours will commence from a common staging area not far from the host hotel. Tour participants must allow plenty of time for travel to the designated staging area (directions will be provided to all tour participants).
Please consider being a tour volunteer. Parade is run by volunteers, and the driving tours are no exception. You must sign up to volunteer during Phase II registration in early April. We need both Lead and Sweep cars on all routes, as well as help in the staging areas. Driving Tour volunteers must be registered for Parade and there must be two people in each Lead and Sweep car. There will be at least two Zoom meeting calls for all driving tour volunteers prior to Parade week. Also, a driving tour volunteer meeting will be held on-site following Parade Check-In. An email will be sent to all Lead, Sweep and Tour Staging volunteers with more details.
All tour details and times are subject to change. Please check this Parade site for the latest information.
We hope you will register for one or more tours and discover everything the Birmingham area has to offer!
