2024 "Ricky Bobby Shake 'n Bake Gimmick Rally," Thursday, June 13, 2024

For one day during Parade week, forget about Barber!  And forget about the Porsche Experience Center!  Prepare to Shake and Bake at the 2024 Gimmick Rally as we bring together all the greatness of NASCAR and all the craziness of Ricky Bobby in a scavenger hunt rally that will keep you guessing and having fun mile after mile!  This year’s rally will depart our host dealership Porsche Birmingham and head East to destinations that may just give you an appreciation for the South’s fascination with NASCAR, big block engines and circle track racing.  And, incredibly, how part of Porsche’s motorsports history is connected to it.  Your journey will be a lot fun and educational, and maybe just a little weird! As the late and great Dale Earnhardt said: “The winner ain’t the one with the fastest car, it’s the one who refuses to lose.”

The Ricky Bobby Shake and Bake Rally will test your racing knowledge and ask you to find some things along the way that you may be able to shake, but certainly not bake.   This year’s Rally is family-friendly and has several unique stops that will please race fans of every age, including the longest (2.66 miles) NASCAR tri-oval track with the highest banking (33 degrees) – Talladega Superspeedway!  The Gimmick Rally will offer all rally participants the opportunity to sign up for optional Track Laps at Talladega for an additional charge (not part of the scored gimmick).

Registration

You may enter this rally in a rental car or tow vehicle if you are unable to bring or drive your Porsche on the Rally.  You will need to select the class in which you will compete; the 2-Person class, the 2-Plus Passengers class or Parade Juniors class, so if you have more than 2 seats, bring the family or some friends!  Just remember, “if you ain’t first, you’re last” (Wait, what?)

Talladega Superspeedway

As part of the rally, all GR entrant cars will enter Talladega Superspeedway’s main (north) gate, follow staff directions and park near the Winner’s Circle.  Every adult and minor in each car must be a Parade entrant and wear their name badge, which indicates that all appropriate waivers have been signed. After parking, everyone is invited to walk around, take photos, look for rally clues, watch the track laps, and enjoy… there will be some very special photo ops!  Entrants who have signed up for Track Laps will proceed to Pit Road for their laps.

Track Lap Guidelines

  • All drivers must have a valid Driver’s License.  Minors under the age of 19 with a valid Driver’s License must be accompanied on track by a parent or legal guardian.
  • All passengers must be seat-belted.
  • Porsches, rental cars, trucks and other vehicles are allowed unless deemed unsafe by Talladega staff.
  • All participants must remain in their vehicles while on pit road.
  • Track laps will be paced at highway speed by Talladega staff; no vehicles allowed in the top lane, and no passing allowed.
  • Superspeedway sized smiles are definitely allowed!

Route and General Information

The Gimmick Rally will begin at Porsche Birmingham and end at The Shops of Grand River (BBQ, food, drink, mini-golf, and family fun available).  Both the start and finish locations are 15-25 minutes from downtown Birmingham Parade headquarters.  Rally driving distance is approximately 85 miles with an actual driving time of 2 hours 15 minutes.  First car off at 9:00 AM and all cars must be back by 5:00 PM.  There are multiple stops at which you will be getting out of the car to solve the gimmick (and do fun things).  There are several stops of interest (besides the track) with unique and educational venues or activities where an additional fee is required for entry.  Detailed information will be sent to rally entrants after registration.  So, get ready to Shake ‘n bake, baby!

Rally Entrant Information (to be posted approximately 3-4 weeks prior to Parade)
